About this audiobook

#1 bestselling author John Green makes his much-anticipated return to fiction with a behind-the-scenes Hollywood love story about finding someone to trust in an untrustworthy world.

For rising talents Kai Laramie and Juniper Castillo, being cast in the buzzy biopic Andy Warhol Never Gets Old is the opportunity they’ve both been waiting for. They’re on the verge of breaking out, and maybe even falling in love. Soon, the movie is blowing up, and so are their lives—in exciting, but also terrifying, ways.

John Green artfully blends a behind-the-scenes Hollywood love story with an unflinching examination of the insatiable attention economy. Told through dual points of view, the novel brilliantly juxtaposes the on-screen study of Warhol’s life at the dawn of celebrity culture with the intimate struggles of two young people figuring out who they are, both together and alone.

Tender, heartbreaking, and shrewdly funny, this is a story as only Green can tell it. Hollywood, Ending is a deeply observed novel about the tension between a public and a private life, and the audacity to pursue the kind of love we all deserve.

This audiobook edition includes an exclusive conversation with John Green and Hollywood, Ending narrators Julia Whelan and Zachary Chastain. Hear the behind-the-scenes scoop about how the audiobook was cast, how the narrators relate to the story, and more.

I was looking forward to this new John Green book. Unfortunately, I found the writing cringey and was not prepared for the amount of sexual assault content in this book. A trigger warning would be nice for those of us who like your writing, but were jump scared by trauma memories.

I really enjoyed this book - yes there are some complex and potentially triggering themes surrounding alcoholism and sexual assault, but I found the writing to be earnest and thoughtful, and I couldn't stop listening. This is my first time reading John Green fiction - I was encouraged to check this out after listening to Everything is Tuberculosis and really appreciating the empathy and also frankness brought to that narrative. Following John's vlogbrothers YouTube channel, I had a slight glimpse at Hollywood, Ending but also chose not to delve into the synopsis or reviews before listening. Casting for the audiobook was perfect - I really love Julia Whelan, and can't wait to hear more from Zachary Chastain.
