William Morris

William Morris (1834-1896) was an English poet, prose writer, designer, printer, conservationist, and socialist associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. His literary works include The Defence of Guenevere, The Earthly Paradise, A Dream of John Ball, News from Nowhere, and the early prose romances collected in The World of Romance. He later founded the Kelmscott Press, joining his love of medieval literature to the design and making of books. Across writing, craft, and politics, Morris argued for the dignity of meaningful work and exerted a lasting influence on fantasy, design, and fine printing.
