Here we go!

This watch face puts Super Mario World across your watch, pixel for pixel: the blue sky of Yoshi's Island 1, its tall round hills and its clouds, the bushes, the grassy ground and the ? blocks. And every minute, Mario plays through it.

Small Mario walks in and punches a coin out of the first ? block. He knocks a Super Mushroom out of the next block, and it slides off the end and into him, and he grows. Then he hits the block on the right, and out hops an egg. It cracks open, and there is Yoshi.

Mario jumps onto Yoshi's back and they ride off together. A Rex comes marching in, and Yoshi's tongue snaps it up. From the saddle Mario knocks a Cape Feather out of a ? block, and it rocks from side to side down into his hands. A puff of smoke, and he has his cape.

And then he flies. He hops off Yoshi, takes a run and lifts off, climbing past the ? block and soaring over the level. He swoops down under the block and back up, glides over the blocks through a trail of coins, and floats down on his cape, right onto Yoshi's back. Then they run off together and the level starts again.

The level follows the clock, not your wrist. Glance at your watch at any moment and Mario is wherever that second puts him, always in step with the time.

Every sprite and the scenery are 16-bit pixel art taken from the game itself, pixel for pixel: the cape streams out behind him as he runs, fills like a sail as he soars and billows as he floats. Yoshi walks, blinks and waits for him. The ? blocks and coins flash, the coin spins out of its block, and every number and letter is set in a blocky retro type drawn pixel by pixel, outlined in black so it reads against the sky.

Everything you need at a glance:
• A big retro digital clock, following your 12/24-hour setting
• Weekday and date
• Battery level, counted the way the game counts coins
• Today's steps beside Mario's boot
• Your heart rate beside a 1-UP mushroom
• A gold step goal ring around the edge, the colour of the coins, filling as you walk

Make it yours: press and hold the watch face, tap Customize, and switch the step goal ring off if you prefer a clean edge. It is on to begin with.

In always-on mode the level steps aside and only a dim clock stays lit, gently shifting position to protect your screen.

Made for anyone who grew up with a controller in their hands: fans of the SNES and the Super Famicom, of the 1990 classic, of Dinosaur Land, Yoshi and the Cape Feather, of soaring over the level to find the secrets in the sky. A retro gaming watch face for the 16-bit kid in you.
